One Lonely Tree: Washoe Valley, NV

There is some thing calming about a black and white print. Within minutes it can transport you from the hustle and bustle of the real world into an timeless place with less noise.

Frozen in Time: Bodie, California - Ghost Town

This ghost town in California is one of the most timeless places I have ever visited. The town has been left untouched since it's last resident left in 1943. The history of Bodie is immensely interesting, it was once a thriving mining town.

Fort Churchill, Nevada - Ghost Town

Fort Churchill was part of the Pony Express and was a busy town in another time. The ruins that remain are tucked away in rolling hills.

Tangled Up: Washoe Valley, Nevada

This specific tree caught my eye with the tangled formations among it's trunk. It was beautiful, and extremely interesting to look at.

Fort Churchill, Nevada: Ghost Town

This photo was taking from between wheel spokes looking out towards the town. It was an interesting vantage point before heading down the hill to explore the Ghost Town.

Branches

These branches made me think of a horror movie where tree branches become enchanted and take over an area. They were creepy, yet beautiful.

This is just my start into playing around with black and white photography, but so far I am really enjoying it.

Addicted to Sunrises and Sunsets

Thanks for stopping by, enjoy!
More of my work is available to view at the links below:

South Lake Tahoe, California: Sunrise

Sunrises and Sunsets are majestic. This past year I have become obsessed with trying to catch the start of the sun's day and the end of the sun's night. There is some thing heart achingly beautiful about the colors that spread across the sky in vibrant glory.

                                                               Malibu, California: Sunset

Something about these two events bring me a sense of peace and helps me recenter. It is some thing so calming and almost therapeutic.

Virginia Lake: Reno, Nevada: Sunset

Lately I have been focusing on sunbeams, I was most excited when I caught the image below with the sunrise reflecting in Virginia Lake.

Reflections at Virginia Lake in Reno, Nevada at Sunrise

I am lucky enough to have South Lake Tahoe in such close proximity to go enjoy the daily shows the sun puts on.

The next few images make me wish that I was good at watercolor painting, the colors that splash across the sky and blend from one to another are stunning.

Historical Washington DC

I grew up within 8 miles from Washington DC, yet when I lived there I didn't take as much time visiting the beautiful sites I should have. While home for Christmas, I took a two hour trip down to the National Mall to take some photo's at two of my favorite places on the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial. Here are a few of my shots, I cannot wait to get more the next time I go back East! You can view all photo's from this album and all my others here:

Crater Lake, Oregon

I recently went to Oregon for the first time to see Crater Lake.  It was breathtaking! Crater lake was a Volcano that is now filled with water.

Here is a sampling of the photo's I took there. Feel free to check out the rest from this trip and from my online gallery pictures are available for purchase here:

Lake Mono, California

Lake Mono is a highly alkaline lake, it is beautiful as you can see.  The lake is surrounded by Tufa's. The tufa's were created when fresh water rushed into the salty lake. It is pristine and unlike any other lake I have ever seen.

Enjoy the photo's below and feel fee to check out http://smg-photography.smugmug.com/ where more of my work is housed and available for purchase.

Guatemala, the Land of Eternal Spring

Guatemala, the Land of Eternal Spring

 Atilan, Guatemala

I was born in Guatemala and every time I get to go back I am elated!  Guatemala is a beautiful country located in Central America.  It has villages and lakes beautifully flanked by volcanoes.

I always try to make time to see Lago Atilan, which Aldous Huxley declared to be the most beautiful lake in the world.  Here are a few of my most recent photos of the lake the first two taken from a boat while touring the lake in January 2014:

I have often thought of where I would like to retire and the city of Antigua, Guatemala is very high on my list.  It was originally the capital of Guatemala until a devastating earthquake in the 1700's.  The town has beautiful cobble stone streets and remarkable Spanish architecture. Walking though Antigua is like walking back in time.  It is serene, beautiful, and breath taking!
